CSI Alumnus Jesse Wente Delivers Keynote Address at Fall Convocation

On November 13th, 2015, graduating Innis College students welcomed Cinema Studies alumnus, JESSE WENTE, as their keynote speaker at the Fall Convocation Ceremony.

Since graduating from U of T in 1996, Wente has gone on to become both Director of Film Programmes for TIFF and Pop Culture Critic on CBC’s Metro Morning.

In his Convocation remarks, Wente spoke to the value of open-mindedness to new experiences, reminding new graduates to, “Embrace your passions, but also embrace the openness needed to make your passion your life.” He went on to say, “If you’re not open to a change of direction, you might miss the turn that leads to your dreams.”

IMG_9111Wente recalled his earliest cinematic memory — watching Star Wars at the University Theatre in 1977. This recollection set a humorous, yet poignant, tone throughout his remarks, which culminated in his quintessential parting sentiment, “…and of course, ‘May the force be with you — always.'”

Innis College would like to thank Jesse for the taking the time to deliver such thoughtful words to our newest cohort of graduates.

To all of our recent graduates, we extend our enthusiastic congratulations, and we welcome you to the Innis College Alumni Network!
